Ross Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Lindsay
Partnership is stressed. Newsletters are posted and there are sections about the organization and upcoming events. The proposed constitutional amendments are also posted.

This site demonstrates the connection between the Association and the Hospital. Note also that they have a link to the HAAO site.

It takes a while to access this site, probably because of the large HAAO logo and pictures on the home page. An interesting section on this site is the one on History where the connection with HAAO is emphasized;information about HAAO is also provided as well as a link to the HAAO website. There is also information on the activities of the Auxiliary.

Winchester District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
There is a description of their structure with standing committees, a list of Executive members, roles of the volunteers and examples of purchases for the Hospital. The HAAO logo appears on the home page together with the HAAO Mission statement which guides them.

The Public Health Agency of Canada and major health organizations across the country provide extensive information on this site. There are Public Health Updates (West Nile Virus, Asian flu Pandemic), Monthly Features on topics such as Stroke, sections on disease prevention and healthy eating, an A-Z index and a search function.

Pandemic & Influenza Information
This site is comprehensive. There is general information as well as sections on Flu detection & surveillance, health & safety, planning & response, frequently asked questions & their answers, and news. A search function is also provided.

Resources for Volunteers - Health Related Agency/Organization Cancer Society
The mission of the Cancer Society is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of persons living with cancer. Visitors can click in their province and enter their postal codes to locate their local offices. Any type of cancer can be researched by entering the name in a Search box. There are sections for patients and for friends/families and much information can be found about current events and research findings.

Caregiver Resources
The Caregiver network Inc. was founded by Karen Henderson arising out of her own experiences in being the caregiver for her father. Over the 14 years she became an expert in the area and has given presentations to many groups. It provides personal information to help family caregivers meet the challenges of aging and eldercare. There are videos for sale and links to companies providing associated services.

Depression
This site is funded and developed by GlaxoSmithKline. It offers information designed to help visitors get the facts and to learn how to manage depression, which is clinically known as a major depressive disorder.

Diabetes
This is the site of the Canadian Diabetes Association, a charitable organization founded over 50 years ago which has a presence in about 150 communities in the country. It promotes the health of Canadians through research,education, service and advocacy. Visitors can find authoritative information on Type 1, Type 2, and the Glycemic Index, how to contact their local branches,read What's New and peruse the Useful Links.

Gastrointestinal Diseases and Disorders
This is the site of the Canadian Society of Intestinal Research, a registered charity dedicated to increasing public awareness, providing patient educational materials and funding medical research regarding a broad range of diseases and disorders. There is authoritative information, a section on stress management, Latest News and an events/lectures listing.

Healthy Eating - Labelling
This nutrition Labelling Education Centre is produced by the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Dieticians of Canada. Visitors can find out what's new in labelling and what the government policy is in this regard, visit the Virtual Grocery Store and learn how the labelling can assist in making healthy choices.

Heart & Stroke
This national voluntary non-profit organization has the mission to improve the health of Canadians by preventing and reducing disability and death from these conditions through research, health promotion and advocacy. It is a federation of 10 independent provincial foundations. Visitors can find information about Warning Signs, Blood pressure, CPR, Healthy Waists, for example, by pressing Hot Buttons. there are also additional resources.

Hospice Association of Ontario
This is the site of Canada's largest volunteer hospice organization consisting of more than 180 community- based volunteer organizations providing end of life care for individuals living with life threatening illnesses and those who care for them. There is much information including a search function with an alphabetical listing so that visitors can find if there is a hospice in their community.

Lung Association
This site, sponsore by the Lung Association, is very informative. There are sections on Children's Asthma, lung diseases, in particular COPD, how to protect your lungs and what you can do to recognize and solve air quality problems. In the indoor section, visitors can find out about scents, problems with carpets and information on air cleaning devices. There are also links to other sites.

Mental Health Association
This is the site of the Canadian Mental Health Association, a nation wide charitable organization that promotes the Mental Health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of peple experiencing mental illness. There are buttons for Your Mental Health, Understanding Mental Illness, Support Centre, for example. Much educaional and supportive information is here. Visitors can also find the addresses of local offices and usea search function.

Mood Disorders check-up
This is a collaborative endeavour of many organizations such as The Ontario Pharmacists' Association and The Ontario Psychological Association. Visitors can take a simple, on-line, private mental health check-up which can identify some symptoms of common mood disorders so that they can get help. As well, there are fact sheets to learn more about mood disorders and their treatment and other resources for individuals, their families and friends.

Ontario Brain Injury Association
The mission of the Ontario Brain Injury Association is to enhance the lives of Ontarians living with the effects of Acquired Brain Injury through education, awareness and support. Contact information for local associations across the Province can be found as well as sections for Education & Resources; Services & Support and News. There is a link to the Ontario Alliance for Action on Brain Injury (OAABI) website - Can you see us? - where visitors can learn about their current campaign.

Osteoporosis
The objective is to educate, empower and support individuals and communities in the prevention and treatment of Osteporosis. There is much practical as well as theoretical, information on keeping bones healthy. Visitors can use the Calcium Calculator section which tabulates the milligrams of Calcium received from their food in a particular day which can then be compared with the recommended intake. There are research reports, personal profiles, calendars of local events and recipies.

Women's Health Matters
This is produced by Women's College Hospital as a resource to help women take control of their own health. It gives timely coverage of research,new treatments and diagnostic techniques. The Virtual Health Centres provide detailed information on conditions which affect women. Also there is an A-Z Topics section, a virtual meeting place for women to share stories, and a Resource Data Base.

Your Healthy Home
This site, sponsored by the Lung Association, is both fun to use and very informative. A click on a particular room will bring up an enlarged picture with potential trouble spots indicated. For each of these, solutions are provided.

Resources for Volunteers - Provincial Government Colon Cancer Screening
This new site from Cancer Care Ontario has information in both English and French about Colon Cancer, its prevention and screening as well as available resources. Visitors are made aware of the importance of screening and early detection of this disease which has a 90% cure rate if detected early through screening. Currently it is the second deadliest cancer in Canada and Ontario has one of the highest rates in the world. "Screening saves lives, maybe even yours".

Eat Right!
This is a site of the Ministry of Health Promotion. It provides easy-to-use nutrition information to help make healthier food choices easier. A first stop for trusted information and advice on nutrition & healthy eating! Visitors can browse by topic, e-mail a dietitian, get recipies and tips. There is also a toll-free # to call.

Health Care Options
This site has a Medical Services Directory which allows residents to type in a postal code or street address to find the nearest walk-in and after hours clinics; urgent care centres; family health teams; general practitioners and emergency rooms. Visitors without a family physician can register and be assigned someone to help in the search. There is also a listing of Community Care Access Centres.

Health Promotion
This Ministry of Health Promotion site has a variety of topics that visitors can select, for example: Health Tips & News, Ask an Expert, Ask a Nurse, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Programs, Find a Dr., Diabetes Self Management Centre and Smoke Free Ontario.

This Ministry of Health and Long Term Care site gives current information on the situation as well as links for additional information.

Wait Times
This Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care site has the most currently available information about wait times in Ontario including a breakdown by individual hospitals for five special health services: Cancer surgery, Cardiac procedures ( bypass surgery, angioplasty, angiography), Cataract surgery, Hip & Knee replacement, Diagnostic scans ( MRI & CT scans). There are data about the wait times across Ontario as well as in a particular area.

Sites - Canadian Charity Village
This is called Canada's supersite for the non-profit sector as it is dedicated to encouraging and servicing charities, non-profits, their staffers, volunteers,donors and supporters. There is a job board and training/educational programs online(with a charge). The Resource Library is extensive and there is a comprehensive listing of "useful stuff" online, their title.

Community Volunteerism Resources
This is described as "connecting people & resources for community vitality". Information on topics such as leadership, policies, marketing and technical aspects can be accessed.

Consultant on Volunteerism
Linda is an internationally respected consultant specializing exclusively on volunteerism and non-profit management. HAAO was most fortunate in being able to hear her present in 2007 at the Joint OHA/HAAO/PAVR-O Conference in February and at the Region Chairmen Day in May. On this site there is an excellent Bookstore and Resources section listing materials she has for sale as well as links to other sites for interest and for downloading free materials.

Imagine Canada
This is the public information portal of Imagine Canada. There is a good search function for accessing information from their library and research program.

Masai Centre
This is the site of the Masai Centre founded by Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik who was the speaker at the Closing Plenary of Convention 2007. Those who attended this session were very moved by this inspiring physician who spoke about how her personal convection evolved into a city-wide and now national effort to make a difference fighting AIDS in Africa. Vistors can read speeches and Dr Zajdik's Tsepong journal as well as obtain information about ongoing work and the Bracelet of Hope Campaign.

Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)
This site has much information about the many activities of the Ontaro Hospital Association including reports, speeches, papers and many conferences.

The Joyologist
This is the site of Bonnie Simonato, Author, Educator and Motivational Speaker, who presented at our 2007 Convention. Her mission is to provide necessary tools to find JOY and to further spread JOY to others in daily living. There is information on seminars, workshops and published books on personal growth, professional growth, spirituality and self-esteem.

Volunteer/Community Information Centres
This site contains much information on the various aspects of volunteerism in Canada: promoting volunteering, employer-supported volunteering, issues & policy. Of particular interest is the listing of locations across the province of local Volunteer/Community Information Centres. These can be a great support as they offer a variety of services: resource staff and materials, workshops, and referral to other agencies.
